Doris Edith (Keels) Powell went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2021 in Houston Texas. She was 95 years old. She was born to Helma (Erickson) and Ralph Keels on October 12, 1925 in Groveton, Texas. Doris had 2 brothers, Hank and Ralph Keels. She lived there until she met the love of her life, R.L. Powell. She married R.L. Powell on October 3, 1942 in Lufkin Texas. She and R.L. bought their 1st and only home in 1952 in Hudson, Texas and raised 4 children. They shared a wonderful life together. Doris worked for Whites Warehouse until she retired to spend more time with her grandchildren and R.L. She enjoyed her visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris and R.L. Powell were very involved in the Providence Baptist Church and Lancewood Baptist Church. Doris taught Sunday school until she moved to Houston, Texas in 2009 to be with her granddaughter Angelique and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.L Powell; brothers, Hank and Ralph Keels; daughter, Janis Ann Stanley; and great-grandson, Lee Fowler.
Survivors: Son, Robert Wayne Powell of Houston, Texas; Daughter, Gwen (Powell) Collins and husband Jack Collins of Taylor, Texas; Daughter, Peggy Smith of Houston, Texas; and Son in-law, Barry Stanley of New Braunfels, Texas.
Grandchildren: John Collins and wife Sudarat, Angelique (Powell) Burnside and husband Jeff Burnside, Kathy (Collins) Mills and husband Thomas Mills, Joe Keith Fowler, Rene (Powell) Ferguson and husband Todd Ferguson, Chad Stanley, Lori (Fowler) Sluder, Leigh (Stanley) Randall and husband Matt Randall, numerous great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Village Family Practice, Heaven Sent Senior Living and Crossroads Hospice for all their care and support they gave Doris and her family. Doris’ final resting place will be at Moore Cemetery in Groveton, Texas.
